homework #3 - lego movie questions
There are THREE sections of the FAMILY TARGET AUDIENCE: kids who like Lego; parents of kids who used to play with Lego themselves; young cinema goers.
- Explain how The Lego Movie appeals to each of them using the following areas:
- Characters
- Narrative
- Settings
- Themes
the lego movie appeals to kids because of the catchy music (everything is awesome) and cool characters that they may recognise from their favourite other films, such as: superman and wonder woman. the settings also contribute to the appeal because of the wide range and bright colours that it offers, this is eye-catching and interesting to children. the film appeals to kids who play/played with lego as there are many places that they may have themselves, in lego form, such as the construction site Emmet works at.
the film appeals to parents of kids that played with lego themselves. this is because some of the older 80s sets and characters are actually included in the film, like Benny and his spaceship. This gives a hit of nostalgia to the parents and a possible new interest to their children who may watch the film and want to start playing with the older sets too. the narrative and themes also cater to the parents because if they realise it sends positive messages to their children, they will more likely allow their children to watch it because it will overall give a good effect on their morals and because it does not have mature, but 100% family-friendly themes.
, the lego movie caters to young cinema goers (teens typically). for girls, the film introduces a strong empowering female character, Wyldstyle, this is appealing to girl young cinema goers because it boosts confidence and it's nice to see a female main character in a family film. for both boys and girls, the film includes multiple comedic gestures and jokes which the young cinema goers will be able to understand and find funny.
What methods did they use to PROMOTE the Lego Movie and how did it target the different parts of the target audience? You should talk about the following methods:
- Poster Campaignor so
- TV Advertising
- Film Trailers
- Social Media
- Merchandise
they used a range of different medias and methods to gain awareness of the lego movie and they did this by targeting different audiences and creating different forms of advertisement and promotion that would be enjoyable to that particular section of audience. for an example: merchandise was made to promote the film. this was aimed for both children and parents, because it would appeal to both of them. stationary sets would be appealing to children because if it is from a movie they have seen and enjoyed, they would want a product based on that film. it appeals to parents because if it is stationary they would prefer the idea that their child can use it at school so it would be put to good use, so they would buy it.
social media was used too, this was successful as the majority of the teenage (young cinema goers) population are present on a wide range of social media platforms and will see the advertisements and mentions of the film and will share the information on. the more this occurs, the more people it will reach and be advertised to.
film trailers were another successful type of promotion . these were short clips made form the most interesting parts of the movie and put together to be played as adverts between tv shows and before or during youtube videos.the most interesting parts were used because it will interest and hook in the audience, convincing them to watch it. this was targeted at multiple parts of the audience, however it is mainly aimed at those who are usually again on social media, or watching videos that may have an advert before/during it like the young cinema goers.
